From afros and extensions to the bearded lady and the bottle blonde, Hair the Show reflects the uncanny,
changeable, political and cultural aspects of the humble Barnet. Keen coiffeur Marcia Farquhar and former
hairdresser Peggy Atherton have curated this group show of 31 artists, in a gallery entirely painted pink to
complete the salon atmosphere. The exhibition will include Oladele Bamgboye's wry take on male hair fetishism,
Leigh Bowery's merkens as snapped by Steve Pyke, Margarita Gluzberg's fine line drawings of empty hairdos, Simon
Wood's ventures into hairdressing manuals and Trine Nedreaas' startling demonstration of the unbecoming comb-over.
Two evenings of live performance and music have been arranged for Thursdays March 13 & 20. As well as hair related
song and dance, there will be a lecture called 'dumb blondes', a slide show, a chance to see the trimming of Jem
Finer's 'jewfro' wig, and a sighting of Kirsten Norrie, the so-called bearded lady.
